Social Ministry
Emmanuel engages in a variety of outreach ministries to the wider community to strive for justice and peace in all the earth. In order to show our Lord’s loving kindness, we expect our members to commit themselves to serving all people, especially those in need. We believe that God is blessed and glorified as we work towards caring for the least and the lost. The large majority of our parish events have a social ministry connection to them. Here are some ways in which we serve the wider community:
Meals on Wheels -
Emmanuel is blessed to be in partnership with Meals on Wheels at the Pine Ridge Senior Center. Every week day members of the church deliver a hot meal to elderly people in the area.
God’s Helping Hands -
Emmanuel partners with God’s Helping Hands, an ecumenical agency in the West Columbia area. Members volunteer there on a regular basis as well as bring donated items to help stock the shelves. If you are in need of emergency assistance, please contact God’s Helping Hands at (803) 791-4167.
Ongoing Collections –
Our collects items on an ongoing basis. Our Adult III Sunday School class, in cooperation with Social Ministry, asks parishoners to bring various items every month for a variety of ministries that serve others.
Thanksgiving Breakfast -
This annual parish tradition is a fundraiser. We gather for a breakfast and collect canned goods and money to benefit God’s Helping Hands.
Souper Bowl of Caring -
Our youth lead this fundraising effort on a yearly basis on Super Bowl Sunday. Christians leaving worship on Super Bowl Sunday are asked to contribute $1 towards hunger in the community.
Narcotics Anonymous -
We provide space for NA meetings on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Operation Inasmuch -
Operation Inasmuch is an intentional day of service for the wider community. We provided food for local fire fighters and hospital workers. We also provided quarters for local residents to do their laundry, had a free (no donations accepted) car wash, and made fruit baskets for local shut-in and homebound residents.
In addition, we have regular opportunities to volunteer time and donate items for those in need. School supplies, toilet paper, canned goods, egg cartons, plastic bags, and other items are regularly collected. Parishioners are asked to bring two canned goods each week for God’s Helping Hands, a local agency that helps feed those in need.
Currently our social ministry team meets on an as needed basis. If you’re interested in serving on this vital ministry, then contact the church office.
